Neil Maes, age 11, won our regional spelling bee and went on to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.. Neil, who was born without hearing, now has cochlear implants and doesn't let anything stand in his way.  This is not only due to technology advancements, but the fierce determination that he and his parents have shown to make this technology work for them.
